It's important to note that advocacy work is not counselling. Advocacy services are when a person gets assistance to speak up about their rights and interests.
I can help you provide information about your situation, help you with writing a letter or going to a meeting or speak up on your behalf. Some examples of situations that I can help with are speaking up about stigma or discrimination, issues with public housing or complaints.
The Advocacy Charter was published in July 2002 by Action for Advocacy and defines the key advocacy principles. This both explains what advocacy is and outlines a common vision of what involves effective advocacy. I follow these principles in my work:
Clarity of purpose
I will be clear and honest about what I can and cannot do for you. I will clearly state my aims and objectives and will demonstrate how I will meet them for you.
I will check that you are happy with what I will do for you, and ask what you think.
My services are independent from the Council, hospitals and other care providers. It is unique to you.
I have a written confidentiality policy and this ensures your information is kept private and safe. If any information needs to be shared, this will be checked with you first.
Person Centered Approach
I will ask you what you would like to happen and make sure that you have the relevant information to make decisions.
I want to encourage you to speak up for yourself, and to take action for yourself whenever we can.
I treat everyone fairly and with respect regardless of their culture, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, age or religion.I give everyone the same level of commitment.
I understand the different forms of abuse and neglect and have clear procedures to follow if a client could be at risk.
I am located in the Haslemere and Basingstoke area with easy parking and good public transport links. However if you find it difficult to get to me we can do sessions via Facetime, Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp.
My hourly rate for Advocacy services is £35. Generally, the work required takes around 2 - 3 hours but will vary and cost will be calculated on a cost by cost basis.
Missed or cancelled appointments with less than 24 hours will be charged at full rate.
